Using hair dye when youre pregnant.

Hair colouring while pregnant. If you want to dye your hair while pregnant its probably best to wait until after the first trimester. If you decide to color your hair while pregnant here are some precautions to take. Many experts also say your skin only absorbs a small amount of hair dye and the small amount of chemicals is unlikely to have any harmful effect.

There have been a few studies linking the use of hair dye to an increased risk of certain types of cancer but there are also studies that have found no connection at all. Although fairly limited most research indicates the chemicals found in both semi-permanent and permanent dyes are not highly toxic and are safe to use during pregnancy. Most experts think that using hair dye during pregnancy is not toxic for your fetus.

Permanent hair color may provide the best results but its not the only option for color. Mainly because there are certain things to consider when it comes to getting hair color during pregnancy. Vegetable dyes and henna are often touted as a good alternative to chemical hair colour treatments during pregnancy.

The hair can either become darker or lighter. Studies on animals show that high doses of these chemicals do not cause serious birth defects. Moreover make sure to dye your hair in a well-ventilated area and avoid dyeing the roots to minimize your risk of chemical exposure as much as possible.

Wait to color your hair until your second trimester after the critical stages of your babys organ development are complete. Little or no hair dye is absorbed by the scalp and enters the bloodstream much less enough to reach the fetus. Hair colouring during pregnancy is mostly safe as long as you take certain precautions and colour only parts of your hair.

However these doses are massive compared with the very low amount of chemicals a woman is exposed to when colouring her hair. They do however recommend that women stick to natural colours rather than using chemical hair dyes. Pregnant animals that were exposed to hair dye showed no signs of reproductive damage.
